Aletha Garson and her husband Jack, owners of Twin Buttes Cattle Company, both grew up ranching.
“I grew up in northern Wyoming on a farm-ranch,” Aletha says. “And Jack grew up around Laramie on a ranch.”
They now live in Torrington, but in the summer, they run their herd on the hills outside of Laramie. While both Aletha and Jack came from ranching families, selling at famers’ markets is a relatively new tradition.

“We’ve raised cattle forever, but this part of it, the selling, is something we just started,” Aletha says. “We’ve been at the Thursday Local Market for five years now.”
Selling their meat at markets began with their two daughters’ 4-H project and evolved into part of the business.
“I like providing a good quality product at a price that people can afford,” Aletha says.

The market is especially enjoyable because Aletha can talk and meet the customers who seek out their high-quality, corn-fed beef.
“My favorite part of the market is the people I get to meet.”
Customers stopping by the booth admire the marbling of the meat that comes from the corn and check out the variety of cuts available.  All of Twin Buttes’ meat is processed in Colorado and they provide just about any cut their customers request.

“It’s all aged twenty-one days,” Aletha says. “When you age it, it breaks down the tissues and that makes it more tender.”
Of their selection, a few items stand out as customer favorites.
“I have jerky and that sells really well,” says Aletha. “So do the steaks and roasts.”
This week, stop by the Twin Buttes Cattle Company booth to talk with Aletha and her daughters, peruse the variety of cuts, and perhaps take home some corn-fed beef for this weekend’s cookout.
